-Volunteers coming on the bus, please arrive at school for 8:25 a.m.  and join us in room #28.

-Volunteers meeting us at the Parliament, please meet us at the Security doors for 9:45 a.m. Please wait for us.

-For the students:
-Rules and conduct have been discussed in class this morning. Your child is aware of the expectations and must follow and respect the code of conduct of the Parliament.
No exceptions!

-Your child will eat his/her snack first thing tomorrow morning. (8:30 a.m.)

-NO SNACKS, LUNCH or BAGS to be brought at the Parliament tomorrow. The reason for this is that our Deputy David McGuinty will not be present. (No session at the House of Commons). Deputy McGuinty will be invited to our school at a later date.

-We have no room to have lunch. We are departing from the Parliament at 11:30 a.m. to return for 12:10 p.m. Once your child is at school, he/she will have his/her lunch.

-Your child may bring money to buy a souvenir from the souvenir shop. No pressure!

Bonjour chers Parents,

Here is our introduction for our unit: 'First Nations People'. Your child has learned how important the First Nations people survived and used their environment to feed themselves, clothed and stay warm. Your child discovered that it took 10 to 12 bison fur to build a medium size tipi.

More discoveries to come. Stay tuned!!!

Bonne journée!

Le vendredi 4 mars 2016.

Bonjour chers parents,

We have been so busy lately. Here are pictures of the beautiful work your child has been doing.

THEIR BRIDGES!!! Bravo les amis!

The following pictures were structures that had to be strong enough to hold a load bearing of 250g. They had so much fun doing this activity! Continuez votre excellent travail les amis!  Je suis fière de vous!!!

VAN GOGH! Absolutely beautiful!

We have started to learn about the First Nations. Yesterday, your child learned how the First Nations people made their tipis using resources from the nature and the animals. For example: It took 10 to 12 bison skins to make a tipi. That some of the people were Nomads so they would make wigwams since it was easier to take down and transport to another area. Your child is in the process of creating a tipi using a brown lunch bag. Final product to come. So far, they look AWESOME!

This morning, we have learned about Emily Carr, how was a Canadian artist and writer heavily inspired by the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast.

Here is a link to learn how to draw like Emily Carr.
Emily Carr

Here are some links that your child could use to learn how to conjugate the (passé composé). Your child should take 10 minutes per night and practice. I also mentioned to your child the he/she can go to Google Search engine and type: activité avec le verbe au passé composé. Your child will find several activities. Amusez-vous!!!

Kindness week 2016! - La semaine de la bonté 2016!Your child had to write 7 kindness actions they were going to do for someone.
Bonne journée!!!!

Le jeudi 11 février 2016.

Bonjour,

The Grade 5`s have been busy about our Canadian Flag this week. Here is the beautiful bulletin board done by them!

As part of a homework, your child was to create his/her own Canadian flag and explain it. Wow! I am impressed and very pleased about how they have turned out. I am in the process of having students re-illustrate their flag. New bulletin to come! Stay tuned!

In Language Arts, your child was to present a recipe of their own using the Procedural format and have props to create the recipe in class. Bravo les amis! Also, we will start Recount writing. For this writing unit, we will study the verb tense: 'Passé composé'. Have your child practice this tense by going on the Internet.  The Internet has great activities to help your child. Google: Activités pour le passé composé. 10 to 20 minutes per night will benefit your child. Learning verbs is like learning multiplication or division. You need to memorize.

In science, in about two weeks, we will start our new unit: "Conservation of Energy". Another great unit! More to come!

In Social Studies, we are wrapping up with a research on how to become a Canadian citizen. What are the steps. Afterwards, in a group, your child will need to create a poster by highlighting the steps.

We are also in the process of making an I-movie about the Children's Rights'. Here are two beautiful songs that we have been singing.

Le mercredi 27 janvier 2016.

Bonjour chers parents,

Here is your child's homework this week. Your child needs to write the sentences on lined paper and return it to school on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016. (N'oublie pas d'écrire ton nom).

Here is a website to have your child practice conjugating their French verbs. As mentioned, the more your child practices, the more confident your child will become.

Science: Here are the beautiful bridges constructed with a partner(s). Bravo les amis!!!!

Friendly Reminders:
1) If you have a chance, could you please replenish your child's pencil case? Some students are low on school supplies such as: pencil crayons, colouring crayons, glue sticks, a black marker for Visual Arts and a closed pencil sharpener. It is important for your child to always have the appropriate materials to succeed.

2) This is optional: To purchase a 'Bescherellle' to help your child conjugate French verbs easily.

Merci beaucoup et bonne journée!

Mme Mathieu
